– MIMI –
‘糸’ [mì], a Chinese character, was first found on oracle bones, the earliest extant form of writing from thousands of years ago.
‘糸’ [mì] illustrates how ancient people used ropes and knots as record keeping devices documenting their hands-on lives.
Defined in Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese dictionary from the Han Dynasty, ‘糸’ [mì] is fine silk, the shape of a bundle of silk yarns. Delicate and fragile one fiber may be. Yet, when spun into yarns, fibers can be fabulously tough and spunky.
‘糸糸’ [mìmì] is one perfect interpretation of the missions of Department of Textiles and Clothing. Grouped into three sections, we have been trained to be extraordinary in varied areas, aesthetics and creativity, skills and knowledge of textiles, and perpetual value-added marketing strategy.
We are diverse and still we are one. Gathering for ‘糸糸’ [mìmì], our graduation exhibition, we have found and showed solidarity for our productions.
In this very special time of our lives, we want the world to know: Just like spinning fibers into yarns, ‘糸糸’ [mìmì] together makes us bigger and better than ever.
